Joint Meetings

Joint Meeting with Expo Lanka Toastmasters Club - 2024

Office Attire themed Joint Meeting with Dehiwala Toastmasters

The meeting was planned towards the end of 2022, where most professionals were still working from home and struggling to fit into our office attire. Since it was a while since we had worn our office attire, we wanted to have the office attire theme. The president of Dehiwala Toastmaster literally walked into the meeting in his scrubs ! It was an enjoyable meeting, sharing laughter and wisdom with old friends. The Toastmaster of the day was none other than Dr. Ammar Jaufer, he made us feel right at home and his witty humour kept us entertained till the end. All in all, it was a nostalgic meeting, getting back into the office attire and meeting some old friends after a while.

Bonds Beyond Borders

Some bonds are short lived and expires fast, but some others are strong and built to last a lifetime. Six long years ago, in the shadows of the first Toastmasters International Convention outside the USA in Malaysia, such a bond that has withstood the test of time was formed, which was with the first International joint meeting between an eager set of fourteen Toastmasters led by a Charter President Muhammed Sheikh Ahmed from a novice club called ‘Awakening Toastmasters’ and a magnanimous veteran club called ‘Sunway Toastmasters’ led at the time by TM Lai Yoong Hean.

The experience gained and memories of a lifetime have carried both clubs forward, and Nov 2020 reunited both the clubs with the borders and restrictions removed in the online space. Indeed, it was a time to renew old friendships and build new ones while learning and enjoying a meeting of the highest standard.

Joint Meeting with Y-Access Toastmasters

We all go on lock down. Meetings get cancelled and we all go on self-quarantine. Our charter president DTM Muhammed Sheikh Ahmed drives the initiative of Online Toastmaster Meetings and we have our rst successful online club meeting. With this success and his objective of meeting his good friend; He connects with him and starts having the discussion of having the first online joint meeting. They start planning and creating a core team from both clubs and drive the roles and responsibilities to have a successful meeting.

I was privileged to be the Toastmaster for the day. We had members joining from the far east such as Australia connecting to the middle east such as Bahrain. The date was selected as 11th of April and time was IST 5.30pm as it supported all participants. All club members were given a 50/50 chance as everyone had to play the role. The theme for the meeting was chosen by DTM Shukri and DTM Muhammed Sheikh Ahmed which was “Borderless Friendship”.

Travelling together with EY Toastmasters

EY Toastmasters and its mentoring club Awakening Toastmasters arrived at Queens Cafe to conduct the joint meeting themed Travelling Together, where the members walked in travel clothing, carrying bags and travel accessories. The President commenced the session by entertaining the audience with some of his travel experiences and the humourous encounters he faced.

The Toastmaster of the day, TM Abdul Qadir had a wonderful team of role players who came in prepared to travel along throughout the session. Muhammed Saeed as the timer, TM Naren Sundar as the Ah Counter, TM Nufail Saheel as the Grammarian, TM Indunil Pathirana as the General Evaluator and a panel of Evaluators ensured that the fun will not let the learning be missed out.

It was a rejoicing session for all the participants and the days’ proceedings concluded with a wonderful performance by TM Mohamed Rifdhan in beatboxing and TM Shehan Perera with a singalong session showcasing their talents.

The meeting was held on a Sunday where club members can enjoy the road trip to down south while learn lasting lessons from the educative meeting. DTM Muhammed Sheikh Ahmed had conducted an effective presentation on membership building which benefited both exco members of the clubs on how to increase membership growth.
