Dear Awakening Toastmasters Members,

It gives me immense pleasure to send greetings on the occasion of your 5th installation ceremony. This is an important milestone in your club’s history and worthy of celebration. My congratulations to all of you for upholding the traditions of your club, being a Presidents Distinguished Club year after year.

Your club is not just one that reaches the highest distinguished measure, but goes beyond those measures and stands out as an outstanding club in the best district of the world. Your numerous achievements, services and support are too long to be even listed in this brief message. I sincerely thank you for all you do to make a difference in many people’s lives.

For some of you, this club is your first Toastmasters experience and the basis of your overall impression of the organization. For most of you, the club is a gateway and portal to a wider Toastmasters journey; a journey of enduring friendships and connections, self-development and great lessons in leadership.

When all is said and done communication and leadership is ultimately about people; putting other people’s interests first, before our own. It is important for a leader to understand the people they are leading and the organization they represent. A great leader takes on their responsibilities with a genuine spirit of service, remains a student of leadership and has a commitment to that learning as a lifelong pursuit. Your leaders have demonstrated this in abundance.

By reaching this milestone, your club has proven itself successful in empowering confident speakers and leaders who can serve their communities with new skills and abilities. Congratulations on meeting your members’ needs and providing a safe environment for them to grow and improve their personal and professional lives.

Your club provides a vital service to your members and the community as a whole. Your growth as communicators and leaders is limitless, if you have the persistence to stay with the program long enough to be able to reap the rich benefits of Toastmasters.

Awakening Toastmasters have always set themselves as an example to the others in the fraternity in terms of helping and nurturing other clubs. This is one attribute for which I have high regard for all of you.

A Club with a 5 year history the President Distinguished Status comprising of 47 members and recognized as the best club in the District 82 for the past two consecutive years is worth talking about.

I’m always amazed about their energy. The best example was the last Motocross Rally organized by the club with flair. Also I could see the same with their active involvement in Ovation 2018.

This is a club which is worth talking about and is an example of how bondage among members could do wonders and the club has created many leaders even up to the District level.

Simply silent but a dynamic club. Wishing them to be at the top all the time.

Aristotle said: “I can’t teach you anything. I can only make you think”.

A lot of people, whether on the receiving or sending end, like to believe that public speaking has the power to change people. To me, that’s an overrating statement. I believe that change, real outer change, is the outcome of a chain of mini-changes inside a person. And it all starts with the first spark: to awaken a new thought or reality. When I spoke to the audience at Ovation 2018 in Colombo, I wasn’t trying to “change” my listeners because I simply can’t. I was only hoping that my story and speech will awaken something in the minds and hearts. And then I came to know about Awakening Toastmasters; and the influence and impact they have on those they contact – NOT through speaking but “serving”.

Whether we speak as communicators or serve as leaders, what we’re actually doing is we awaken something in those we contact. But even that awakening will only take place if we do it right, and right from the heart. I hope this awakened something in you for your next Toastmasters assignment.

Indeed wonderful things are possible where there is Unity, Team work and Collaboration! Winning the prestigious Platinum award for the best club in the district for the second consecutive time bears ample testimony to this.

Awakening Toastmasters has played an important part in achieving the objectives of the District in numerous ways. The Toastmasters Fun rally was one of its most laudable projects. I take this opportunity to extend my sincere appreciation to the club for its invaluable contribution and I hope the club will continue to achieve many more wonders.

Success doesn’t happen by accident, it is a result of hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love for what you do. Awakening Toastmasters had all of these in them in abundance and hence received the prestigious Platinum Award of District 82 for the past two years.

Awakening had the momentum from day one. Chartered in November 2013, under leadership of the Charter President Muhammed Sheikh Ahmed, DTM, who put his heart, mind and soul into even the smallest act; which is the secret of success.

As the Sponsor of this club, I am proud of their achievements and am rest assured that Awakening will remain the best club of District 82 for many more years to come and arguably the best club in the entire Toastmasters International fraternity !
