When we talk with managers in an organization, the most often and frequently asked question is: “How do you motivate people?”
It is as if there exists some kind of magic wand or secret formula to immediately inspire those who seem to lack motivation. The verity of the phenomenon is that everyone possess the required motivation within themselves. It’s just that many of us aren’t passionate about or sincerely compelled to the things that our managers and leaders want us to accomplish; most importantly even what our heart really desire to achieve.
Surely, we as employees or members of any organization do work hard to do it well enough to get paid, get promoted or at least to not get fired. However, what is it that truly motivate us to do better and go that extra mile? Something that makes us special, something that makes us stand out in the crowd?
Every successful leader provide three tasks to motivate their team to reach the pinnacle together. The three key ingredients that produces the right circumstances for employees and members to perform at their highest levels are: Competence, Commitment and Climate. These help the team or subordinates to fulfil their job with satisfaction.
We in our role as leaders should commend and recognize even the minor efforts of our colleagues and subordinates and celebrate their achievements together with them, as it is the biggest motivation that they can ever ask for; to make them feel a sense of belonging. After all, the success of every individual is what ultimately leads to the success of the whole team.
